1989年に16年間の沈黙を破って復活したGT-R R32型（BNR32）。
一世を風靡したこの名車も、近年では日本国内で見かけることも稀になりました。
一方、アメリカでは一部の熱狂的なファンが満を持して手に入れたBNR32を歓喜しながら乗り回す映像がYouTubeにも多数投稿されています。

アメリカの「25年ルール」とは？
上の動画では、ドライバーがしきりに「25年」と言っています。
この25年というのは、アメリカの「クラシックカー25年ルール」のことです。
製造後25年経過したクルマはクラシックカーとして安全基準の適用外となる
製造後25年を経過した車は「クラシックカー」扱いとなり、連邦自動車安全基準（FMVSS）の適用外となるため、従前はアメリカに持ち込むことができなかった車種についても輸入が可能となるのです。
7. Importing a vehicle that is at least 25 years old.
A motor vehicle that is at least 25 years old can be lawfully imported into the U.S. without regard to whether it complies with all applicable FMVSS.Such a vehicle would be entered under Box 1 on the HS-7 Declaration form to be given to Customs at the time of importation.
If you wish to see that form, you may download a copy from our website at www.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/rules/import.
You should note that the 25 year period runs from the date of the vehicle’s manufacture.
If the date of manufacture is not identified on a label permanently affixed to the vehicle by its original manufacturer, to establish the age of the vehicle, you should have documentation available such as an invoice showing the date the vehicle was first sold or a registration document showing that the vehicle was registered at least 25 years ago.
Absent such information, a statement from a recognized vehicle historical society identifying the age of the vehicle could be used.

Importing: Why 25 years old?
In the US, when a car reaches 25 years of age, it is exempt from the NHTSA (25 year exempt), EPA (21 year exempt), DOT, and FHTSA.
Directly from NHTSA: “A motor vehicle that is at least 25 years old can be lawfully imported into the U.S. without regard to whether it complies with all applicable FMVSS… You should note that the 25 year period runs from the date [(Month & Year)] of the vehicle’s manufacture.”
Directly from EPA: “Vehicle at least 21 years old (calendar year of manufacture subtracted from year of importation) and in original unmodified configuration is either expempted or excluded from EPA emissions requirements, depending on age. Vehicles at least 21 years old with replacement engines are not eligible for this exemption unless they contain equivalent or newer EPA certified engines. Customs may require proof of vehicle age.”
日産 R32 スカイラインGT-R（BNR32）を最初に輸入したのは警官？
1989年に製造が開始された日産スカイラインGT-R（BNR32）に、25年ルールが適用されて輸入解禁となったのは2014年8月1日。
Montu Motors という日本車の輸入業者が、その2014年8月1日の午前０時1分に、GT-R R32をアメリカとカナダの国境を通過させて輸入を行ったとのこと。その顧客がMattさんという警官でした。
